Unlocking Value for Entrepreneurs

Wally the Wiener & Porn Sunday

Porn SundayI just spoke with Craig, one of the founders of XXXChurch.com. I plan to write an article on what they are doing…

XXXchurch exists to bring awareness, openness, accountability and recovery to the church, society and individuals in the issues of pornography and to begin to provide solutions through non-judgmental and creative means. XXXchurch is here to make you think, react and to decide where you stand on the issues of porn. We’re not here to sling mud, but to shove the envelope and try and do some good.

Have you guys heard about them? What questions (as Christians) would you have for what they are doing? What has been the churches response to pornography? Is it a problem? What effects have you seen porn have on people’s lives? Would your church be willing to have them put on a PornSunday and preach?

  1. I would honestly like to know why there is a giant inflated penis behind their heads. I like their style of reaching people, big weiner seems a bit much.

  2. Ephesians 5:3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, when you become saints;

Ephesians 5:7 Be not therefore partakers with them.

Ephesians 5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove [them].

  3. I, too, think the inflatable penis was a bit much. I’m in no way denying the fact that many people have been helped in their porn addiction through XXXchurch, but one can’t help but be taken aback by at least a few of their methodologies.

I am with Lorne. Jesus does not need this kind of help to reach people. Sinners came to him, they were attracted to him; he did not have to set up shop at the local pubs, and these xxx folks shouldn’t be tarrying in those places distorting who God really is. Of course, God loves the world, that is why Jesus came but I am afraid what this church and its affiliates do not realize is they are sending a weak, wamsy-pamsy message about an all-powerful, all-knowing God, one who does not delight in things of the world, and one who does not need to snuggle up with the world to get real results. He is coming back for a spotless, blameless church. I do not apologize when I say, I am afraid I do not see it with these guys. Maybe their heart is right, but they really need to seek God, and see what his plan of action is for reaching out to people who want to use porn. Sad really, I pray for deliverance and for eyes to be openened, in Jesus name. Amen.

  5. In response to Rachel,
Perhaps I should quote something you said. “Jesus does not need this kind of help to reach people”. Wow. What part of “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to ALL creation” (Mark 16:15) don’t you understand? Jesus COMMANDED us to tell everyone about him. I guess you may be right that he doesn’t need us, but he wants us and COMMANDS us to help Him reach people. Pornstars and people affected by porn are certainly people. Perhaps before you judge these guys from one picture ( I also don’t deem the large phallus necessary), you should look into their ministry further. They have changed thousands of lives, mine included. I don’t know anything about you, but if you have a husband, a boyfriend, a dad, a son, a brother – every single one of them has been affected by porn. 30-40 percent of pastors admit to struggling with porn. And I’m not sure how ignorant you are regarding porn, but when guys say they are “struggling” with it, that means that they aren’t just thinking about it every month or two – they are looking at porn on a regular basis, and it is threatening to take over their lives. What these guys are doing is changing both Christain men’s lives and non-christian men’s lives.
And you say that sinners came to Jesus? Well, in a sense, but He wasn’t sitting in the church waiting for people to come to him. He was out in their lives, LOVING them instead of judging them, and then people came to Him. And these porn pastors, they aren’t sitting in their churches either. They go to porn conferences, and set up a booth. Then, people come to them. And now that they have made many connections within the industry, they don’t have to meet at a convention, they can meet in a restaurant, or in their church. Right now one of the pastors is on a tour debating porn with Ron Jeremy. These debates are sold out. He is shedding light on the subject to thousands of people.
I could go on for a long time, obviously. I just think that instead of praying for their eyes to be opened, you should pray for the log to be taken from your eye, and others who have a Pharisee-like attitude. Yes, God is coming back for a spotless, blameless church, but if Christians continue to be so afraid to stand up and make a difference – to beat down the enemy in his strongholds – then there won’t be much of a church left for Christ to come back for. You should pray for these guys, that their work will grow and prosper. There is nothing “sad” about their work – I rejoice almost daily for what they are doing.
For those who like to throw scripture around to alleviate Christians responsibilites, there are plenty of other scriptures that charge us with being active, not passive. Read Ezekial 3 17:18. His charge is no different from ours. And peoples blood will beon our hands if we don’t step up and do something.

Sorry for the length. It’s something I strongly believe in.

  6. Brendan:

    You said:

“Perhaps I should quote something you said. ‚ÄúJesus does not need this kind of help to reach people‚Äù. Wow. What part of ‚ÄúGo into all the world and preach the gospel to ALL creation‚Äù (Mark 16:15) don‚Äôt you understand? Jesus COMMANDED us to tell everyone about him”
    ——–

The message we are to share is that of repentance and faith. And many times, Jesus said things that led to people abandoning Him because He made his message clear.

As a former addict to pornography, let me tell you first hand that this “ministry” is totally unnecessary. God doesn’t need our human creativity to get people into His kingdom. He commands us to teach people to OBEY THE GOSPEL, which is repentance and faith.

We don’t have to mimic the world to win it. In fact, that is up to God. We are to preach the message of Christ Crucified.

Yes, we go into all the world, but we must preach what we were told to preach. The ends does not justify the means. The BIBLE is our plumbline.

  7. I must agree with Rachel and Tim here. I certainly agree with the fact that pornography is a serious issue facing the Church in America. Men from all walks of life struggle with this. So, addressing this is the right thing to do. The #1 issue I’ve found in overcoming this is its secrecy. As long as it remains a “private” sin, it will flourish.

Now, here’s where I part ways with XXXchurch and their buddy wally. Consider the idea of attending a real porn festival, displaying wally the wiener, and saying your goal is to A. help Christians overcome porn or B. to evangelize the lost.

So, how many “authentic” believers do you expect would attend a porn festival? I would say zero, unless we’re counting the people these guys brought with them for ministry. Ok, that knocks out purpose A.

Now, what about purpose B? When dealing with the conversion of a man’s soul, what good does it do to attempt to correct his porn addiction? CAN we correct his sin issues at all? So, the second purpose of being at a porn festival is gone.

I guess their other purpose for this would be to draw attention to themselves and their ministry. It couldn’t be to draw attention to Jesus Christ or give Him glory, because they have a giant penis standing behind them. I wonder how many people walk by that and give praise to God??

  8. I disagree with Lorne and Rachel – sinners didnt seek out Jesus. Jesus sought out the sinners, nor did Christ come for the saved but for the unsaved. Jesus met people where they were at, Jesus wasnt found in churches amongst the saved and the “religious” infact the one time the bible talks about christ inside a church he was overthrowing tables…. inside four closed walls isnt where christ has truly called Christians to be. he has called us to pattern our life after his, and where was he? amongst sinners. Christ uses people in all different ways to reach many differnt types of people….

  9. My goodness. I don’t want to sound like the little old lady I am but good grief. Why the inflatable penis? Shock value for shock’s sake seems unnecessary to me. Just my opinion.

Ephesians 5:7 Be not therefore partakers with them.

I think they could preach the gospel–and probably do it wonderfully–without getting down in the mud with the pornographers.
