The 50 Most Influential Christians in America

These lists are somewhat amusing because they are always biased by the people who create them. But yet again, here is The 50 Most Influential Christians in America according to the Church Report. A lot of the people are quite influential (George W. Bush at #8) yet, the first major influence in my spiritual life is #24 John Piper, after that, I don’t really read/follow much of the rest of the people on the list.

Are there people here that you read and/or are influenced by?

Who are the top people who influence you? For the benefit of us all, add a comment! I’d say Tim Keller, John Piper, Francis Schaeffer and the Acts 29 movement, yes I know it’s a group.

UPDATE: The Evangelical Outpost slices and dices the list to look at who these people really are. Are they really the 50 most influential Christians?

  1. If most on that list influenced me it probably would not be in a good way…lol.
I would like to think that many of us would answer that our pastor, Bible study leader, mentor etc. is having the most influence on us but not always I suppose. I find that friends end up influencing me most often.

  2. Hi Drew and all-
What an odd list…lots of televangelists. I wish there were more people listed who are not in ministry professionally.
My list would also include Tim and Kathy Keller (I’ve attended Redeemer for the last two years), John Piper (in particular “Christian Hedonism”), Thomas Merton, N.T. Wright (often via Keller, now on my own), David Wilcox, and Bono. A29 would get a vote as well, although I don’t know as much about the movement as I would like. Sweet and McLaren would have made my list easily a few years ago; if I had to number to fifty now they would make it again. Billy Graham is a pretty sure thing…
Tons of others, but without my library in front of me it’s tough to make an exhaustive list.
