I feel that Christ would use the social media, but it would be called "Speaking in Tongues"(Smile). But seriously, Jesus would teach us to render to the world what belongs to it, and render under GOD what is HIS. Hint: "The world is the LORD'S and the fullness thereof."

I'm getting ready to preach a sermon about Christians using Facebook, MySpace, etc. If Jesus did use Facebook I imagine that it wouldn't have been a substitute for face to face interaction with people. I find that one of the dangers with social media is that after we have conversed on line we feel we have met all our obligation to commune with people. I realize some can only do this online because of the distance they live apart from one another, but I think Jesus would model both aspects of fellowship. I don't think He would say it is an either/or situation. Interesting discussion. Grace to you all. Kevin Boone

Hey Drew... thanks for doing this stuff. Your posts are always engaging and provocative. Jesus really is unique in a lot of ways (big understatement).

I think the fact that Jesus didn't write but his followers did maybe helps us with a different question. Should we be on social networking sites? Would Peter, Paul and John have a Facebook profile? Paul's passion for outreach seems so huge... I can see him taking names on mars hill and asking Orpheus and Crispus to friend him so they could continue the conversation.... On the other hand it's hard to imagine Paul posting random vids from You Tube with cute kids and lots of giggles.

As for Matt's comment about angels and pinheads. Angels, as spiritual beings occupy no space and have no extension in space so I believe we can be more confident that an infinite number of angels can dance on the head of a pin. Assuming of course the Sovereign Lord allows it.

[...] silly prayer perhaps but curious nonetheless. A parallel question also might be something like Goodmanson’s: “Would Jesus have a Facebook Profile if He was here [...]

Why didn't Jesus leave behind any writings by His own hand? That technology was available to him. Think how efficient and effective that might have been. (Don't think too long...)

For some reason, God determined that the "fullness of time" (Galatians 4:4) when Jesus would come to Earth would be a period bereft of electronic technology.

How many carpenters are among your Facebook friends? Fishermen? Lepers? "Samaritans"?

I don't know how many angels can dance on the head of a pin, nor can I offer a definitive answer to the hypothetical question posed. My knowledge of Jesus, though, inclines me to disagree with 7 out of 10 church leaders.
