Church Planting, Technology & Culture

Read today's paper and saw a quote from an article stemmed from the U.S. Religious Landscape Survey:
Another finding almost defies explanation: 21 percent of self-identified atheists said they believe in God or a universal spirit, with 8 percent “absolutely certain” of it.
Jeff Archer, president of the Atheist Coalition of San Diego, was at a loss to explain how one in five atheists said they believed in God.
“I find it quite preposterous that an atheist believes in God,” Archer said. “The only qualification to be an atheist is a nonbelief in God. When you take that away, then they're not an atheist.”

Early Christians were considered “atheists” by the Romans because they only believed in one God.
At first glance I was taken aback - for about a minute - then I realised I’m probably in the group that is ‘atheist’ but not totally closed to the idea there could be a creator. It really depends on how the question is worded. I wish I could see the questions to understand the answers.
As an open minded person, I can’t discount the possibility that ancient astronauts tampered with our genes, or that an incredibly advanced computer travelled to our world an was such a creator. So my openness to a ‘god’ is not grounded in the supernatural - there is no evidence of such a thing. So the definition of atheist is not at stake here. The definition of god is.
What was more disparaging was that the same study found that 57 percent of evangelical church attenders said they believe many religions can lead to eternal life, in conflict with traditional evangelical teaching. Not only is this a call for biblically sound teaching in the church, but moreso for Christians to stand for what is Truth. There is but one way to the Father, and that is through the Son, Jesus Christ. While it feels good to say that maybe Islam or Buddhism could also get you there, it doesn’t represent what is really true. It also isn’t fair to give people the impression that they are also on the right path. It we truly have a passion for the lost, we have to be willing to stand up and be very clear about what our beliefs are. I am not scared to say that Jesus Christ is the only way, because to say anything else would be misleading and wouldn’t serve to re-unite Christ with those the He loves.
Is there any cake and am i allowed to eat it?
