Church Planting, Technology & Culture

Our son, Gideon, is now 2 1/2. Even before Gideon was born my wife and I have discussed Classical Christian Education. The debate has been one of responsible education of our (hopefully many) children, the missional opportunity of public/private school as well raising them with a Christian worldview. Many of you have children, what are your education plans for them?

There is a group of people we have found in San Diego that want to do this collectively (with some already doing it in their homes). We’d love to start a co-op.

Drew is an elder/pastor at Kaleo Church and CEO of Monk Development. Kaleo is a church planting movement in San Diego. Drew spends much of his time thinking about church planting strategy, web missiology and being a husband and father of two (Gideon & Roman). More about Drew Goodmanson.

Drew,
We have two children and are now in the process of adopting a baby from China. Our plans have been classical Christian education at home, though that may develop into something more collective. Our oldest, Katherine, is four, Elias is 1 1/2. The child we adopt will be just under one year old. We’ll play it one year at a time, but we have read and prayed a lot, and spoke with other families who have done the same. One of the families at our church (7 kids) has done this and we are resourcing them as well.
Cool Joe. My wife and I are adopting right now as well. Sounds like we’ll have to share notes as we get to that point of education. A couple families are home schooling now, and a Classical Christian teacher (from the East Coast) just moved here and wants to start a school in San Diego.
Unfortunately, we don’t have a Classical Christian School near us - that would be our first option. God bless on the adoption man! Where are you at in the process?
I heard about Classical Educatoin from my current Pastor who used to teach at a Classical school in Florida. Is the Classical Christian Education you guys are talking about also using the Trivium? When I heard about this style of teaching/learning it makes so much sense and I really began wondering why everyone is not taught this way. After struggling through the typical US education system as a kid I really do not want that for my children. Other than Home Schooling are there any Classical options in San Diego at this time? My wife and I have a little one due in Dec. so I guess it is never too early to prepare for this stuff.
Yeah man, that’s the trivium is the Classical model.
Dear Mr. Goodmason,
I ran across you blog here while looking for sites on classical education in San Diego. I’m familiar with ETS, but was wondering if you’ve come across any more formal arrangments?
Best regards,
TM
Any progress on a co-op or school for christian classical education. Currently we homeschool two children, ages 6 and 9, with a desire for a classical education. I’m not certain how well we’re doing, but it would be nice to find some other like minded individuals. Our resources are very limited in SD with the exception of Fritz’s classes in Escondido. I live next to the Mexico border, so I’d really like something a bit more central.
